Bit sick...another tooth...a birthday!

We had a bit of a lazy weekend at home. Both Lani and James had been struggling with a cold. James was also having some asthma issues. We continue to have a lot of drizzling rain. Good for the garden but not so good for outdoor activities.

Jasmine helped out another loose tooth on Sunday. She was quite happy about it until she lost it while sitting on the lounge. For several minutes there was panic while we searched for it. Luckily Lani found it stuck to Jasmine's bottom. Jasmine left the tooth under her pillow and this time the tooth fairy made it on time, leaving a $10 note.

Today is my birthday. Lani and the kids bought me the Lord of the Rings DVD box set and a new LCD monitor. For dinner we will be having my favourite birthday meal, pork roast with apple sauce and vegetables.

Brrrrrrr and school reports

Brrrrrrrrrr...we had a very cold and windy day yesterday. Brisbane only reached 13 degrees with a wind chill factor nudging towards zero. I had to wear a heavy jacket which I thought I would never wear again after leaving Canberra. Hopefully it will warm up for the weekend because I really want to go for a surf and I don't own a wet suit.

James and Jazz received their mid year school reports this week. Both of them had good report ratings for ability and effort. They have also obviously learnt from previous experience that a good report gets rewarded and knowing they had a good report were quick to offer suggestions on what would be goods rewards.

Some stuff

Well it has been another busy week or two. The weather has actually warmed up a little since my last post, especially this weekend. I would have gone for a surf today (water temp 21 deg) but I had to go into work. Lani took the kids to Southport Park for a play. Hopefully I will be back to 2 day weekends from now on.

Last weekend James had some friends over for the day and they ended up putting together a video called "Red Steel" based around the Nintendo Wii game of the same name. The video features the 4 boys and Jasmine shooting at each other and dying over and over again. Total carnage. When I got home from work I was impressed to see that James had uploaded the video to our PC and had already done a fair bit of editing himself. I didn't necessarily like the theme of the video particularly some execution style killings but then again it has to be better than Cowboys and Indian which I played as a kid. At least there wasn't any racism in his video. When I post the video up on YouTube I will add a link on this blog.

Yesterday James got together with his mates again for a birthday party and they went to Timezone in Surfers Paradise which includes Laser Skirmish and Putt Putt golf. I think James had a really good time because he came home totally hyper.

I finally bought a table tennis table recently. I have been wanting to get one for ages but kept denying myself because I don't really know anyone to play against competitively. But with all the overtime I have been doing I decided to buy something I really wanted. I tried playing with the kids but their interest diminished rather rapidly. Now I just have to find someone to play against. Money can't buy everything.

Lani has been keeping herself busy with work. Tomorrow she is off to Toowoomba which is like a 2 hour drive away. She travels all over the place with her job. It is amazing how much of a difference a GPS makes. Lani used to hate driving anywhere that she needed to refer to a street directory. Now she does it with ease.

Jasmine has been having some DID (Damsel in Distress) issues lately. James seems to be having all the fun and she is missing out. She is desperate for some kind of pet but Lani and I still aren't too keen on the idea because the only pets we can pretty much have are reptiles and they aren't particularly interactive, plus when the novelty wears off we will have to continue to take care of it.

Winter has arrived with a visit from Bob

With the start of Winter the weather has suddenly turned cold and wet. Up until the end of May we were still walking around in shirt and shorts most of the time. The recent rain has been very good and significantly filled our water tank. I still need to do some fine tuning to maximise our capture of the rain. I also had to drain about 8cm depth of water off the top of the pool which had become too full.

Lani's father Bob came up for a short 4 day visit this week. We enjoyed having him here particularly the kids. He always seems to have some useful advice and insight to pass on whatever the situation.

Lani has been putting in a few more work hours lately and will keep it up until the school holidays so she can spend the holidays with the kids.

My work has been a little insane for a few weeks now with the implementation of a major phase of the new police information system scheduled to go live on 18 June. I've been working additional daily hours 6 days a week. I haven't been sleeping well and have become a little run down healthwise. I'm looking forward to post 18 June when I will hopefully at least get my 2 day weekends back to spend more time with the family, fish, surf and get more jobs done around the house.
