Visitors...Dolphin day

We have had Krysti and her kids MJ and Jessica staying with us for the past couple weeks. It's always nice to have them visit and we have enjoyed their stay. They've spent their time going to Movieworld, swimming at the Broadwater, shopping and generally playing around at home. They will be flying home tomorrow afternoon.

Last Sunday I took Jasmine fishing. There were schools of bait fish in and around the Seaway and I was hoping that we might see some Dolphins chasing them because Jasmine has always wanted to see Dolphins in the wild. While fishing we had a very bizarre experience when a fish about 40cm long swam up to the boat and was just hanging around near the surface of the water. I'm assuming it may have been a bit sick or possibly trying to use the boat as some kind of shelter from maybe a larger fish in the deep. I tried to net the fish just out of curiosity and it just got away. Strangely it came back again but swam away when I put the net into the water again. Lani, Krysti and the rest of the kids were not too far away swimming at the Broadwater and they phoned let us spotted some Dolphins had just swam past them. Jasmine and I immediately headed to where they were and followed the group of about 8 Dolphins for approximately 20 minutes. They were getting stuck into schools of bait fish in relatively shallow water and at times popped up out of the water within a metre of the boat. Unfortunately, I was running a little low on petrol and we had to head back towards to boat ramp to avoid the risk of having to row back. Jasmine really enjoyed the experience and later told me that it was the best day of her life.

A long weekend

We have had a reasonable Labour day long weekend. Early Saturday morning we dropped the Jazz in for a service at Honda and played at Southport Park on the Broadwater until the car was ready for pick up. I had a bit of a swim and got a huge fright when I looked under a pontoon for fish. A Bream came out from the darkness and swam right up in front of my face.

After picking up the car Jasmine went to dancing lessons around lunchtime and in the afternoon we played a bit of tennis. It was good to see that Lani and the kids have continued to improve a little.

On Sunday morning I went for a quick fish, caught a smallish but legal flathead and released it back into the water. I then hurried back home and we went to the cinema to see Spiderman 3. I kind of wished I had kept fishing, it was such a nice day and I didn't really think much of the movie but the kids enjoyed it.

Unfortunately I was asked to work today despite it being a public holiday. Lani and the kids had a picnic lunch with Mark Tang's family and some of their friends. They went to a bike track park and from all reports the kids seemed to enjoy themselves. Apparently they both stacked their bikes during the day but are still keen to go back there again.
