Appendectomy via Laparoscopic surgery
On Monday I was suffering from some stomach cramps/pain, Tuesday they continued with increased intensity and I came home early from work, Wednesday I went to a doctor who suspected probably a gastro bug, possibly appendicitis so I had a blood test. Thursday morning I woke at 3am in severe pain in a cold sweat and held out until around 4:30am when I woke Lani and asked her to take me to the Gold Coast hospital.
Thankfully I jumped the queue pretty quickly in Emergency and received some morphine for the pain and had a drip attached. After a few more needles and a urinary catheter inserted where no foreign object should be allowed, I went in for laparoscopic surgery at around 10:30am to have an appendectomy.
Next thing I know I am in a room with 5 other blokes and Lani and the kids came to see me. Spent the night with a couple of snorers, loud nurses and an old senile non-English speaking guy asking where did his wife go. So I had a typical bad hospital stay sleep.
This morning I was discharged. Without all the drugs I now feel a little sore from the whole ordeal. Doctor told me to rest, don’t go back to work for another week, don’t drive for 2 weeks and no physical/strenuous activity for 4-6 weeks. I am already bored just thinking about it. But I am so glad they could take care of it all through 3 keyhole cuts in my lower abdomen rather than open surgery. There appeared to be no complications, so hopefully I will now heal up OK with no infections.
When Lani contacted my parents on Thursday morning to let them know I was going to have surgery they put some stuff together and drive straight up from Sydney. So they are staying with us at the moment. It is nice to have their support.
